Birla Institute of Technology Mesra (commonly known as BIT Mesra) is a deemed university established in 1955 by the leading industrialist and philanthropist, BM Birla. It was granted autonomous status in 1972. BIT Mesra is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Apart from the main campus Mesra, BIT also offers several courses in off-campus modes. BIT’s off-campuses are at Allahabad, Noida, Jaipur, Lalpur, Deoghar, Patna, and Kolkata.
