Established in 1958, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (also known as IIT Bombay or IIT Mumbai) is the first public college to have laid its foundation stone with assistance from UNESCO. With a lifespan of more than 60 years, the deemed-university campus has grown to include 15 academic departments, 34 centres, 17 departments and three schools to offer more than 60 courses in the stream of Engineering and Technology, Science and Management at UG, PG and doctoral levels. Much like other IITs, the flagship course of IIT Bombay is BTech with a total intake of 1,036 students. After the completion of the application process and entrance exams, candidates are shortlisted based on the following criteria for each course:
Candidates can check with the IIT Bombay admission office for the selection rounds of the rest of the courses. Furthermore, the cutoff for BTech, MTech and MSc courses is released by the respective counselling bodies. For merit-based courses, the institute releases a merit list announcing the names of the shortlisted candidates. As per the merit list, candidates are called for counselling for seat allotment. Shortlisted candidates must pay the fee to confirm their admission.

Merit-cum-Means scholarship:
Merit cum Means scholarship is awarded to a maximum of 25% of sanctioned Intake of undergraduate students. For Dual Degree, it is available only up to the 4th year. For these scholarships, academic merit as well as means will be taken into account to determine eligibility. Women Merit Scholarship is a special provision for female students of UG programmes only.
1. Students whose parental income is upto Rs. 1 Lakh :
Women –
• Exemption from payment of Tuition fee.
• Scholarship of Rs. 40,000/ per year.
• Women Merit Scholarship of Rs. 10,000/ per year.
Others-
• Exemption from payment of Tuition fee.
• Scholarship of Rs. 40,000/ per year.
2. Students whose parental income is above Rs. 1 Lakh up to 3 Lakhs :
Women –
• Exemption from payment of Tuition fee.
• Scholarship of Rs. 30,000/ per year.
• Women Merit Scholarship of Rs. 10,000/ per year.
Others-
• Exemption from payment of Tuition fee.
• Scholarship of Rs. 30,000/ per year.
3. Students whose parental income is above Rs. 3 Lakh up to 5 Lakhs :
Women –
• Exemption from payment of Tuition fee.
• Scholarship of Rs. 20,000/ per year.
• Women Merit Scholarship of Rs. 10,000/ per year.

• Exemption from payment of Tuition fee.
• Scholarship of Rs. 20,000/ per year.
National Scholarships (All States):
The National Scholarships are awarded to the students from the respective states. The applications are forwarded through IIT. This scholarship is awarded/renewed every year for which students have to submit their progress report at the beginning of the academic year.
