Ranchi University was established in 1960 with the objective to impart quality education in the state of Jharkhand. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission. The University is also accredited by the NAAC with a Grade ‘B++’ and is a member of AIU. It is recently ranked 95 for ‘Overall University Performance’ by the QS Rankings 2020. At present, the University has 23 post-graduate departments, 15 constituent colleges, and 49 affiliated colleges, imparting education in multiple fields.
Ranchi University offers UG and PG courses in streams, including Medicine, Psychiatry, Law, Engineering, and Business Management, among various others. Ranchi University has fully functional units of NSS and NCC in its colleges. The University also promotes sports and physical fitness by organising inter-university tournaments. Youth festivals are also regularly held at the college and university level. To prepare students for jobs and NET/ SET examinations, Ranchi University runs coaching classes for ST/ SC/ other minority students along with frequent remedial classes.
